AOG Team Members Send over 100 Valentine’s Day Cards to Local Nursing Home Residents

3/4/2022

FORT SMITH, AR- Arkansas Oklahoma Gas (AOG) team members provided local nursing home residents with heartfelt messages this Valentine’s Day. Residents in nursing homes often experience isolation and become lonely, particularly during the holidays. To lift those spirits, our compassionate AOG team members sent area nursing home residents more than 100 individual Valentine’s Day cards.

AOG team members volunteered to make cards by hand and write personal notes in pre-made cards while partnering on this campaign with the United Way agency and Project Compassion.

Volunteers from Project Compassion—an area nonprofit that provides one-to-one visits to nursing home residents in Arkansas and Oklahoma—assist with nursing home group activities, like playing cards and Bingo, as well as making crafts. The organization also offers pet and music therapy. For many residents, especially those without family, these may be the only visits they receive throughout the year.

This is the second year AOG has contributed to Project Compassion’s “Expressions of Love” Valentine card campaign. The volunteer opportunity was made possible by AOG’s volunteer time off program, which provides team members up to 20 hours a year of paid time off to volunteer in their communities.
